How do students perform on state assessments in reading and math?
Based on third-party summaries of Colorado’s 2024–25 results, about 79% of Chaparral students were proficient in SAT reading and writing — against 62% across the state and 77% across the district — and 51% were proficient in math.
| Measure | Chaparral | Comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Reading & writing (SAT, 2024–25) | 79% proficient | State 62% · District 77% |
| Math (2024–25) | 51% proficient | No statewide figure found |
These are results for the grades the state tests at high school level, so they describe students near the end of their time at Chaparral and say nothing about how much students grew year over year. The state’s own SchoolView profile carries a 2025 performance rating for the school that we could not read.
What's the graduation rate, and how college-ready are graduates?
Colorado’s SchoolView reports a 4-year graduation rate of 96.9% for Chaparral in 2024–25, and an attendance rate of 93.7% — the same as the district’s and above the state’s 91.4%.
| Signal | What is reported | Who reports it |
|---|---|---|
| 4-year graduation rate | 96.9% (2024–25) | Colorado SchoolView |
| AP exam pass rate | 81% | Niche |
| SAT reading & writing proficiency | 79%, against 62% statewide | SchoolDigger |
| College credit while in school | English Composition I and II; Introduction to Sociology | District guide |
Niche’s figures are a third party’s summary and we could not confirm them against the school, so read them as a guide. The school’s own site points students to a College and Career Center; it does not publish where graduates enrol.
What's the real class size and student-teacher ratio?
Colorado’s SchoolView reports a student–teacher ratio of 21:1 for 2024–25, across an enrollment of 2,061 students in Grades 9–12. That is a school-wide ratio, not a count of students in a classroom, and we found no published average class size.
| Source | Ratio | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Colorado SchoolView | 21:1 | 2024–25 staffing; 2,061 students in 2025–26 |
| SchoolDigger | 20:1 | 2,045 students |
| Wikipedia | 20.6:1 | 106 full-time teachers; 2,199 students; no year given |
Actual section sizes will differ by subject. The school describes itself, in its own words on the state profile, as “a big school with a small school feel” — a description, not a measurement. Asking counseling for typical section sizes in the courses a student plans to take is the reliable check.
What curriculum does the school actually offer beyond the basics?
Beyond core courses, Chaparral publishes a list of 24 Advanced Placement courses spanning mathematics, the sciences, computer science, languages, the humanities and visual art, and the district’s 2023–24 guide lists career-and-technical programs at the school in business and marketing, family and consumer studies, multimedia design, STEM/engineering, theater tech and work-based learning.
| Strand | What is listed | Where from |
|---|---|---|
| Advanced Placement | 24 courses, including Calculus AB and BC, Physics C: Mechanics, Computer Science A, Psychology, Macro- and Microeconomics, French, Spanish and Chinese, and four art-and-design courses | The school |
| Career & technical | Business & Marketing; Family & Consumer Studies (Education; Interior & Fashion Design); Multimedia Design; STEM/Engineering (Project Lead the Way); Theater Tech; work-based learning | District guide |
| College credit | English Composition I and II; Introduction to Sociology | District guide |
| Electives named | Astronomy, Anatomy, Medieval History, Computer Science, personal finance | Niche, unconfirmed |
Juniors and seniors can also take a class or two at the district’s Legacy Campus in Lone Tree while staying enrolled at Chaparral. The Academic Planning Guide, which holds the full course catalogue, is a file we could not open, so this is a floor and not the whole catalogue.
Which future-critical STEM fields is this school genuinely strong in—and which ones are major gaps?
Based on the school’s published AP list and the district’s program guide, computer science is the one field with real provision at Chaparral — AP Computer Science A sits beside AP Calculus AB and BC and AP Physics C: Mechanics. We grade every other field we review as weak, and battery storage is absent altogether; the overall score is 41/100, Weak.
| Field | Our grade | What we found |
|---|---|---|
| Computer Science | Developing · 3.0/5 | AP Computer Science A on the school’s AP list |
| Cybersecurity | Weak · 2.0/5 | Network Security at the Legacy Campus; nothing at Chaparral |
| Robotics | Weak · 2.0/5 | STEM/Engineering (Project Lead the Way); no team found |
| Clean Energy | Weak · 2.0/5 | AP Environmental Science only |
| AI & Data | Weak · 1.0/5 | No AI or data-science course found |
| Biotechnology | Weak · 1.0/5 | AP Biology; the district’s biotechnology pathway is at Rock Canyon |
The evidence is thin: the Academic Planning Guide, the club rosters and the bell schedule are files we could not open, so provision may be understated.
Do students get access to advanced coursework, specialist electives and serious competitions?
Based on the school’s published AP list, advanced coursework is Chaparral’s clearest STEM asset: Calculus AB and BC, Physics C: Mechanics, Physics 1, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science and Computer Science A are all listed. We found no robotics, cybersecurity or coding team and no competition result for the school itself.
- Mathematics and science: Calculus AB and BC, Physics C: Mechanics, Physics 1, Chemistry, Biology and Environmental Science. AP Statistics is not on the list.
- Computing: AP Computer Science A is listed; AP Computer Science Principles is not.
- Beyond the building: juniors and seniors can take one or two classes a semester at the district’s Legacy Campus, which runs robotics, network security, aviation and building-controls pathways.
- College credit: the district guide lists English Composition and Sociology for Chaparral and no STEM course.
Asking which clubs are running this year, and whether any enter outside competitions, is the quickest way to close the gap in what we could see.
How strong is it in robotics, engineering and hands-on problem solving?
Based on the district’s program guide, Chaparral lists a STEM/Engineering program built on Project Lead the Way, and juniors and seniors can reach Advanced Robotics at the district’s Legacy Campus. We found no Chaparral robotics team or club and no FIRST, VEX or other competition result, so we grade robotics Weak, at 2.0 out of 5.
Advanced Robotics at the Legacy Campus covers automated control systems, manufacturing, electrical principles and robotic programming. It is open to juniors and seniors across the district, so it adds a pathway without making robotics a part of everyday school at Chaparral. The Academic Planning Guide, which would name the engineering courses, is a file we could not open.
Will my child develop meaningful cybersecurity and digital-safety skills?
Based on the district’s program guide, the nearest serious pathway is Network Security at the Legacy Campus in Lone Tree, which teaches networking, cloud computing and cybersecurity to juniors and seniors; it is not among the programs the guide lists for Chaparral itself. We found no cybersecurity course, club or competition at the school, so we grade it Weak, at 2.0 out of 5.
- The guide lists cybersecurity at Highlands Ranch High School, and network security at Castle View, Legend and the Legacy Campus — not at Chaparral.
- It lists coding for four other district schools and not for Chaparral.
- No page we could read describes digital-safety or digital-citizenship teaching at Chaparral, either way.
For a student set on cybersecurity, the Legacy Campus route is the one to ask about: eligibility, transport and how the class fits the timetable.
Will your child be ready for jobs that don’t exist yet?
Here’s what the evidence actually shows for Chaparral — not what the brochure claims.
41/100 — Weak overall. Chaparral’s strongest provision is computer science, where AP Computer Science A sits beside AP Calculus AB and BC and AP Physics C: Mechanics on the school’s published AP list.
But: battery storage is absent, AI and biotechnology are lacking, and cybersecurity, robotics and clean energy are thin.

Nothing found for
No student work was found evidencing these. For a school this well documented, an unrecorded programme is unlikely to be a large one.
What a family should ask about directly
- The Academic Planning Guide, the club rosters and the bell schedule are published as files this review could not open. The grades rest on the school’s AP list, the district’s 2023–24 CTE guide and third-party summaries, so provision may be understated; ask the school for its course list in computing, engineering and biology.
- No robotics, cybersecurity or coding team or club, and no competition record, was found for Chaparral itself. Ask which clubs run this year and whether any enter outside competitions.
- The robotics, network security, aviation and building-controls pathways sit at the Legacy Campus in Lone Tree and are open to juniors and seniors only, for one or two classes a semester. Ask about eligibility, transport and the timetable.
- Batteries & Energy Storage has no course, lab or output record at all — treat it as absent, not just thin.
- The path dots show how far each field reaches across Grades 9–12; the grade in which each course is taken was not available.
