How safe is the school, really?
Based on the safety page on the school’s site, “each of the Williamson County schools have School Resource Officers (SRO) in the building,” and the student handbook says “All visitors must sign in and out in the office and wear a visitor or volunteer sticker/badge at all times.” The most recent incident reports we found are from 2015: a bomb threat sent by email led to a search in March, which found “No evidence of anything unusual or suspicious,” and in April a student was charged with filing a false report after he reportedly confessed to writing a threat on a bathroom wall. We found no incident since, and no discipline figures.
| Source | What it shows | Date |
|---|---|---|
| School safety page | School resource officers in each Williamson County school; lockdown, shelter-in-place and evacuation defined; a district tip line; a district safety assessment by Safe Havens International | Current page |
| Student handbook | Visitors sign in and out, wear a badge and show photo ID; touring visitors are escorted | Current handbook |
| WKRN | Bomb-threat email; school searched; nothing found | March 19, 2015 |
| WKRN | A student turned himself in over a threat written on a bathroom wall; charged with filing a false report | April 21, 2015 |
The safety page and handbook list measures, and neither is an outcome. We found no state discipline or school-climate figures for the school, so we cannot say how often students face suspension or expulsion, or how students rate belonging and bullying. The 2015 reports are eleven years old, and the absence of newer ones is not proof that none occurred.
How do students perform on state assessments in reading and math?
Based on the 2024–25 state data, 81.5% of Ravenwood High School students scored On Track or Mastered on the high-school TNReady English language arts test and 71.2% on math, with 82.8% in science and 87.8% in social studies. The state gave the school an overall grade of A (5.0 of 5.0). The district’s school profile reports an ACT average of 27.2 against 25.2 for the district.
| Measure | Ravenwood | Comparison |
|---|---|---|
| TNReady English language arts, On Track or Mastered | 81.5% | None shown |
| TNReady math, On Track or Mastered | 71.2% | None shown |
| TNReady science, On Track or Mastered | 82.8% | None shown |
| TNReady social studies, On Track or Mastered | 87.8% | None shown |
| State growth rating (1–5): literacy, numeracy, science, social studies | 1.0, 5.0, 1.0, 5.0 | None shown |
| ACT average (year not stated) | 27.2 | District 25.2; state 18.8; national 19.4 |
The growth ratings measure how much students gained, not where they ended up, so a school whose students already score high can rate low on growth; the two literacy and science ratings of 1.0 are worth asking about. The page that carries these figures is a mirror of the state data, and it also shows an “Overall Rate” for readiness that does not match its own text, so we use only the proficiency and growth figures. Public School Review shows older math and reading rates of 65% (2023) and 84% (2022); we do not rest the answer on them.
What's the graduation rate, and how college-ready are graduates?
Based on the 2024–25 state data, Ravenwood High School “reports a ready graduate rate of 84.8%.” Public School Review gives a graduation rate of 96% for its latest year, 2023, against 87.3% for Tennessee, and Niche also shows 96%. For college preparation, the district’s school profile lists 27 AP courses, reports 1,027 students tested on 2,376 exams in 2024–25 and a “Scores > 3” row of 91.7%, and counts 23 National Merit finalists in 2025.
| Measure | Ravenwood | Comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Ready graduate rate, 2024–25 | 84.8% | None shown |
| Graduation rate, latest year 2023 (Public School Review) | 96% | Tennessee 87.3% |
| Graduation rate (Niche) | 96% | No year or comparison given |
| AP “Scores > 3”, 2024–25 | 91.7% | The profile gives no base or comparison |
| Students tested in AP, 2024–25 | 1,027 of about 2,000 enrolled | Niche: 52% in AP |
| National Merit finalists, 2025 | 23 | The profile says the most in the state for three years |
The profile says juniors and seniors “are permitted to take dual enrollment courses,” marked DE on the transcript, and the handbook says students in those courses “earn postsecondary credit upon completion of the course.” The state-data page also shows an “Overall Rate” of 86.7% for readiness that disagrees with its own 84.8%, so we cite the sentence. We found no list of how many graduates enrol in college, and the profile gives names of colleges attended, not counts.
What's the real class size and student-teacher ratio?
Based on Public School Review and Niche, Ravenwood High School has 20 students for each teacher; Public School Review gives 15 to 1 for Tennessee and Niche gives 16 to 1 for the nation. Enrolment is about 2,000: the district’s school profile says 2,038, and Niche and Public School Review say 1,975. We found no class-size figure from the school, so we cannot say how large an average class is.
| Source | Figure | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Public School Review | 20:1 | Latest ratio year 2024; Tennessee 15:1 |
| Niche | 20:1 | National figure 16:1 |
| District school profile | 2,038 students | Year not stated |
A ratio divides all students by all teachers, including any who do not teach a class, so it says less than the size of a class does. We found no class-size figure for any particular course.
How strong is this school in AI, data science and computer science compared with other schools?
Based on our review, on the scale we use for every school, computer science grades at Level 4 of 5 (4.0/5, Excellent) and AI & data science at Level 2 (2.0/5, Weak). Niche, which ranks by its own method, lists the school fourth of 111 in its “Best High Schools for STEM in Tennessee”. Computer science rests on a sequence of Coding I, Coding II and a practicum, with AP Computer Science Principles and AP Computer Science A.
The school’s page says “Coding 1 class will learn the building blocks of programming,” and the district’s 2023–24 programme of study adds Computer Science Foundations as a first course and dual-enrollment Coding I to IV. Computer science stops short of Level 5 because we found no computing competition result and no published AP computer science exam counts. AI & data science sits at Level 2 on the strength of AP Statistics and a student-led Applied AI club, and goes no higher because we found no AI, machine-learning or data-science course.
How strong is it in robotics, engineering and hands-on problem solving?
Based on competition records and local press, Ravenwood High School’s Raptor Robotics Club has taken teams to the VEX Robotics World Championship in 2024 and 2025 and qualified for it again in 2026, and in 2026 Raptor Robotics-JOKR won the Excellence Award at the Smoky Mountain Forge Signature Event. In Science Olympiad, the school’s team placed first at the Tennessee state tournament in 2023 and 2024 and took the Robot Tour event in 2024 and 2026. Our review grades robotics at Level 4 (4.0/5, Excellent); the career-and-technical page lists a Robotics class and a Principles of Engineering and Technology class.
| Evidence | What it shows | Date |
|---|---|---|
| Williamson Source | 12 named Ravenwood students qualified for the VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas | March 2024 |
| Robotics Education & Competition Foundation | Team 57249A, Raptor Robotics - Goose, Ravenwood High School, on the World Championship Engineering Division list | April 2025 |
| Williamson Herald | Raptor Robotics-JOKR: Excellence Award, “the highest judged award available at a VEX V5 competition”; qualified for the 2026 World Championship; the club has 28 student members and 4 teams | 2026 |
| Science Olympiad (Duosmium) | State tournament build events, including Tower 1st in 2024 and 2025, Robot Tour 1st in 2024 and 2026 | April 2024–April 2026 |
The district’s 2023–24 programme of study lists Robotics as a Ravenwood pathway but defines no course sequence, and the career-and-technical page names an Architectural & Engineering Design sequence of AutoCAD and Inventor drafting courses beside it. The robotics course is not the reason for the grade: the club’s record is. We found no pathway from the club into a college or industry programme, which is why it stops short of Level 5.
Do students get access to advanced coursework, specialist electives and serious competitions?
Based on the district’s school profile, the school lists 27 AP courses, including Calculus AB and BC, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics C, two Computer Science courses and the AP Capstone courses Seminar and Research, and 47 honors courses. Juniors and seniors may take dual-enrollment courses, and the handbook names Engineer Your World among them. The competitions are serious: a state title in Science Olympiad in 2023 and 2024, a state Science Bowl title in 2025, and VEX world championship qualification in three seasons.
| Field | Advanced work found | Competition or research |
|---|---|---|
| Computer science & data | AP Computer Science Principles and A; AP Statistics; honors Coding I | No result found; student-led Hack Club and Applied AI clubs |
| Mathematics | AP Calculus AB and BC; AP Pre-Calculus; honors Calculus | Mu Alpha Theta and a Math Club on the clubs page |
| Science | AP Biology, Chemistry, Physics I, C and CM, Environmental Science; honors BioSTEM I–III | Science Olympiad: state first in 2023 and 2024, nationals 38th and 37th of 60; Tennessee Science Bowl champion 2025 |
| Engineering | Architectural & Engineering Design I–III; Engineer Your World for college credit | Raptor Robotics Club: VEX World Championship in 2024 and 2025, qualified for 2026 |
The Science Bowl champions “secured the victory” over Mt. Juliet High School in a field of sixty teams from 43 schools and qualified for the national tournament. The profile’s AP data table counts 32 courses for 2024–25 while its heading says 27, so we cannot give a firm AP course count. We found no research-competition result, such as a science-fair finalist, inside the last three years.
Which future-critical STEM fields is this school genuinely strong in—and which ones are major gaps?
Based on our review, robotics, biotechnology and computer science are graded Excellent (4.0/5 each). AI & data science, cybersecurity, clean energy, Earth systems, aerospace and advanced manufacturing sit at Weak (2.0/5). The major gap is battery storage, where we found nothing (0.0/5).
| Field | Score | Standing |
|---|---|---|
| Robotics & Autonomous Systems | 4.0/5 | Excellent |
| Biotechnology & Synthetic Biology | 4.0/5 | Excellent |
| Computer Science & Computational Thinking | 4.0/5 | Excellent |
| AI & Data Science | 2.0/5 | Weak |
| Cybersecurity & Digital Safety | 2.0/5 | Weak |
| Clean Energy & Climate Technology | 2.0/5 | Weak |
| Earth Systems & Geospatial | 2.0/5 | Weak |
| Aerospace & Space Technology | 2.0/5 | Weak |
| Advanced Manufacturing | 2.0/5 | Weak |
| Batteries & Energy Storage | 0.0/5 | Weak |
Will your child be ready for jobs that don’t exist yet?
Here’s what the evidence actually shows for Ravenwood High School — not what the brochure claims.
65/100 — Developing overall. Ravenwood’s robotics, biotechnology and computer science provision is advanced: Raptor Robotics teams have qualified for the VEX world championship in 2024, 2025 and 2026, the BioSTEM sequence runs from a first course to a practicum, and the coding sequence reaches AP Computer Science A.
But: battery storage is absent, and AI and cybersecurity are thin.

No student work was found evidencing these. For a school this well documented, an unrecorded programme is unlikely to be a large one.
What a family should ask about directly
- Battery storage has no record at all, and cybersecurity, AI, clean energy, Earth systems, aerospace and advanced manufacturing each rest on a club, a competition event or a single elective. Ask the career-and-technical office whether a cybersecurity or engineering sequence is planned, and which courses run in a given year.
- The district’s 2023–24 programme of study lists Robotics as a Ravenwood pathway but defines no course sequence for it, and the VEX results belong to a club. Ask how a student reaches the Raptor Robotics Club, how many places there are, and whether the Robotics class is a prerequisite.
- The state’s 2024–25 results show 71.2% of students On Track or Mastered in high-school math, against 81.5% in English and 82.8% in science, and a growth rating of 1.0 of 5.0 for science. Mathematics is the backbone of every field here, so ask how students are placed in the calculus and statistics sequence and how science growth is supported.
- The district’s profile gives the AP course list as 27 courses in its heading and 32 in its data table, and names a different principal from the school’s own page, which names Patrick Boyd. Ask for the current AP course list and which STEM courses run this year.
- We could not read the school’s course guide or the state’s own report card as text, and the district’s 2023–24 programmes of study do not list industry certifications. Grades therefore rest on the school’s career-and-technical, clubs and academics pages, the district’s profile and programmes of study, competition databases and local press, which is why confidence on several fields is not higher.
