Whether Weber High actually develops future-critical science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics — and how enrollment works.

How safe is the school, really — beyond what the marketing says?

Campus Safety

Based on news reports and Niche’s student survey, the most serious incident we found at Weber High is an alleged plan to attack the school that came to light in September 2021 and ended in a student’s arrest before any violence; 79% of the 77 students who answered Niche’s survey say they feel safe.

RecordWhat it saysDate
Alleged plan, avertedThe FBI passed messages to the Weber County Sheriff’s Office, which linked them to a Weber High student; the student was booked into juvenile detention and charged in juvenile court. A school letter said “early intervention and action by law enforcement foiled any potential acts of violence.”Came to light 23 Sep 2021; charge 30 Sep; reported 19 Oct 2021

A news report shows what was reported, not what was found; the school’s letter says the plan never posed an imminent danger, and the sheriff’s office said deputies worked through the night to resolve it. Seventy-seven respondents is a small sample and Niche gives it no date. We found no news report of a later lockdown or serious incident, and no suspension, expulsion or absenteeism figure, because the state’s school report card could not be opened.

Ask the school what its safety team reviewed this year, how a student can report a concern, and what the Teen Center and the student advocates handle.

How do students perform on state assessments in reading and math?

State Assessments

Based on figures Niche draws from the Utah State Board of Education, 57% of Weber High students were proficient in reading and 44% in math in 2024–25, while Public School Review shows 35% in math and 49% in reading against 40% and 43% for the state; the principal told the district board in August 2026 that sophomore math proficiency had risen, without giving a figure.

Reading proficiency, 2020–21 (Public School Review)49%43%
Math proficiency, 2023 (Public School Review)35%40%

The two sites use different years, which is why the figures differ; the math figure has risen from 35% in 2023 to 44% in 2024–25 if the two series are comparable, and we cannot confirm that they are. The board summary reports the principal’s own account of gains in state rankings, sophomore math and Advanced Placement participation, and names no number. Public School Review ranks the school 445th of 957 Utah schools, in the top half.

The school’s site links a state report card and a Utah Aspire Plus guide, and neither could be opened. Ask the school for its latest report-card results and how it supports sophomores who are below proficiency in math.

How qualified and stable are the teachers — credentials, average tenure, turnover?

Faculty & Staff

Based on the school’s own profile, Weber High has 90 certified teachers, all with a bachelor’s degree, 33% with a master’s degree or doctorate and an average of 10 years of teaching experience; Niche gives the teachers a B+, and we found no figure for turnover or for how long teachers stay at the school.

Students per teacher is a school-wide ratio, not the size of a class, and the three sources give three figures for different years. The profile’s staffing figures are undated and the document still names a principal who retired in 2023, so they are the oldest figures in this answer. Niche’s grade is opinion and not a measure.

The district publishes an FTE and qualifications page that we could not read. Ask the school how many of its teachers have been there five years or more, how many positions it is filling this year, and how many teach outside the subject they are certified in.

What’s the graduation rate, and how college-ready are graduates?

Outcomes

Based on the school’s own profile and two third-party sites, Weber High’s graduation rate was 92.7% for the Class of 2021 and 92% in the latest Niche and Public School Review listings, against 88.3% for Utah; the profile gives an average ACT composite of 21.2 for 813 students tested, and 49.4% of the 2019–20 graduates enrolled in college the following fall.

The profile says most graduates serve a two-year mission, which it gives as the reason so many graduates have unknown status, so the 49.4% understates further education and cannot be read as a college-going rate. The profile also states that 90% of students go on to pursue additional education, a figure no page in our ledger supports, and our review sets the two side by side.

Ask the school where the Class of 2026 enrolled, how many earned college credit while in high school, and what share of graduates took the ACT.

Which future-critical STEM fields is this school genuinely strong in—and which ones are major gaps?

STEM Strengths & Gaps

No field reaches the Excellent band at Weber High. Cybersecurity, robotics, computer science, aerospace and advanced manufacturing are the strongest, Developing at Level 3 (developing); biotechnology is Weak at Level 2 (thin); AI and data, clean energy and Earth systems are Weak at Level 1 (lacking); and battery storage is Weak at Level 0 (absent). The review’s overall readiness figure is 51/100, which reads Developing.

Advanced manufacturingDeveloping3.0/5
BiotechnologyThin2.0/5
AI & dataLacking1.0/5

Level 3 means a recurring curriculum with progression and practical work. Cybersecurity reaches it through Computer Science Principles and then Cyber Defense, which prepares students for the CompTIA Security+ exam with Weber State University credit; computer science through Computer Programming in Java and the game and web development courses; advanced manufacturing through four welding courses, 3D printing, drafting and construction; and robotics and aerospace through the district’s magnet courses at Weber Innovation High School. Biotechnology rests on Medical Forensics and Advanced Anatomy & Physiology.

No competition, certification count or exam result was found for any field, which keeps every grade below Level 4, and the robotics and aerospace grades rest on courses taught at another campus. The readiness figure is 1 point above the Developing line. Ask the counselors which of these courses run this year and how a student reaches the magnet program.

How strong is it in robotics, engineering and hands-on problem solving?

Engineering & Robotics

Based on the school’s course guide, Weber High students can take engineering and robotics through the district’s magnet program at Weber Innovation High School — a Project Lead The Way sequence, Aerospace Engineering and Robotics & Automation, which covers CNC milling, injection-mold design and industrial robots — and on the home campus 3D printing, drafting, construction and welding give hands-on work; we found no robotics competition result for Weber High itself.

Ask whether a robotics team runs this year and who advises it, how a Weber High sophomore reaches the magnet program, and how those courses fit the eight-block day.

Do students get access to advanced coursework, specialist electives and serious competitions?

Advanced Opportunities

Based on the school’s course guide and profile, Weber High students can take AP Biology, Chemistry, Physics 1, Environmental Science, Statistics, Calculus AB and BC, the AP Capstone diploma programme and more than 30 concurrent-enrollment classes for college credit; in May 2022, 64% of the school’s AP exams scored 3 or higher, and we found no STEM competition result from 2023 to 2026.

FBLA events are business and communication, with digital video production among them.

Ask the school which advanced math, science and computer-science sections run this year, and what its 2025 AP results were.

Does STEM translate into recognised qualifications, university preparation and credible next-step pathways?

College & Career Bridge

Based on the school’s course guide, Weber High students can prepare for the CompTIA Security+ exam in Cyber Defense, take American Welding Society qualification tests in welding, earn state Certified Nurse Assistant certification and CPR and emergency-response certificates, and work toward an NCCER certification in construction, with Weber State University credit in many of the same courses; no page counts the students who earn any of them.

NarrativeWhere the marketing exceeds the evidence — and where it doesn't

Where the marketing exceeds the evidence

School says“Weber High School, an IB World School, is accredited by AdvancED”
Evidence showsThe line opens the school’s profile, which is footed 2020–21 and names a principal who retired in 2023. The 2026–27 course guide lists Advanced Placement courses and the AP Capstone diploma, the district’s Weber High page does not mention the International Baccalaureate, and the IB school finder could not be loaded to check authorization.
No International Baccalaureate course or programme identified.
School says“Most students are high achieving and 90% will go on to pursue additional education”
Evidence showsThe same profile reports that 49.4% of the 2019–20 graduates enrolled in college the following fall, with 275 of unknown status, and says most students serve a two-year mission after graduating. Graduation was 92% in the Niche and Public School Review listings, and no page gives a count of graduates in further education that reaches 90%.
No count supporting the 90% figure identified.

Where the school is stronger than its marketing suggests

School says“Weber offers 16 AP Courses and multiple concurrent enrollment courses.”
Evidence showsThe line is on the district’s Weber High page. The school’s profile counts over 30 concurrent-enrollment classes, and the 2026–27 course guide lists 22 Advanced Placement courses plus AP Seminar and AP Research, with Weber State University or Utah State University credit in networking, programming, web development, drafting, construction, welding, health science, mathematics, chemistry and languages, and five more college-credit engineering courses in the magnet program, so “16” and “multiple” understate the range.

What a family should ask about directly

  • Battery storage is absent, AI, clean energy and Earth systems are lacking, and biotechnology is thin: the course guide lists no artificial-intelligence, energy, geospatial or biotechnology course. Ask the counselors whether any elective, club or unit covers them.
  • The engineering, robotics and aerospace courses are in the district’s magnet program at Weber Innovation High School, and the guide gives no transport or schedule. Ask how a student gets there and how it fits the eight-block day.
  • The guide is a 2026–27 listing and does not say which sections run. Ask which computer-science, cybersecurity and welding courses are running this year, and how many students take Security+ or an American Welding Society test.
  • The robotics and computing groups named on the school’s profile date from 2020–21. Ask which are active now and whether any entered an outside competition.
  • Public School Review lists 35% of students proficient in mathematics and Niche lists 44% (2024–25). Ask for the current state report-card figures and how mathematics support works for a student aiming at computing or engineering.
  • The school’s profile is footed 2020–21 and calls the school an IB World School. Ask which of its statements are current.
